“It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading. Something that will stretch their imaginations- something that will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own.” – Katherine Patterson
Book fairs are a great way to promote reading habits among people of all ages. Like every year, Billabong hosted the Scholastic Book Fair which was held between 18th to 22nd of July. It played a pivotal role in recapitulating the might of the pen and printed words.
Apart from promoting literacy and engaging the students with healthy reading habits, the fair presented a vast panorama of books on a wide range of subjects. The fair featured books by eminent authors like, Agatha Christie, John Green and Rick Riordan. The fair housed a string of books that panned across all genres. From children’s books to crime fiction, the fair had them all. The fair also had a collection of Non-fiction and biographies and books across subjects like sports, art, music and philosophy.
Our unique program would be to initiate book clubs at school which would entail short listing along with a few select titles being handed over to students as student news. This “single sheeter format” would help students become discerning in their book choices.
